Kristen Elizabeth McGuire, 18, of Burlington, died at 6:11 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 6, 1996, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Mark Joseph and Janelle Ann Spenler McGuire.
Kristen was a 2014 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington. She enjoyed music, animals, watching television, and spending time with people, family, and friends. She loved people joking with her and she had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include her parents Janelle and Mark McGuire of Burlington; one brother, Joel McGuire of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandparents, Charles and Barbara McGuire of La Crescent, MN; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Spenler-Ware of Burlington; maternal grandfather, Bill (Aileen Takahashi) Spenler of Manhattan Beach, CA; maternal grandmother, Twyla (Mike) Hassel of Lakewood, CO; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents and maternal great-grandfather.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM Friday, October 17, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Kristen will be 9:00 AM Saturday, October 18, 2014, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father David G. Steinle as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Big Muddy’s following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hope Haven.

Thomas “Tom” H. Pogemiller 87, of Wapello,Iowa died on October 15, 2014 at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center in Wapello, Ia. He was born October 22, 1926 in Newport, Iowa to Donald and Mildred Baird Pogemiller. On December 31, 1950 he married Jolene Keltner at Grandview, Ia.
Mr. Pogemiller was a hog buyer for Dubuque Packing Company for 20 years and the Wapello Sale Barn. He graduated in 1943 from Morning Sun High School and served in the USArmy during WWII as a Staff SGT.
He was a member of Grandview Community Bible Church and local VFW. He loved his involvement in his church and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Yankees, refinishing furniture, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Jolene of Wapello, one son Randy (Connie) Pogemiller of Ia. City, two grandchildren Sheila (Pete) Davisson of Ia. City and Michael (Julie) Pogemiller of Melborne, Australia, one brother Jim(Joanne) Pogemiller of Wapello and three grt.grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Renee, sister Wilda, 3 brothers: Dwight, Robert, Jerry.
Funeral services for Mr. Pogemiller will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at the Grandview Community Bible Church with Pastor Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial will follow in the Wapello Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday Oct. 19 from 1-5PM at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 3 until 5pm. .
A memorial has been established for the Grandview Community Bible Church and the Wapello Library.
