Mrs. Pauline Stott, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Services are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.

 

Robert Schier, 61, of Burlington, died at 2:06 AM Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born December 8, 1952, in Burlington, he was the son of Herbert and Annette Weiler Schier.

Bob worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and Matteson Marina as a dispatcher.

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1971.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1972 until 1975.

He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball. He also liked mushroom hunting.

Survivors include three brothers, Thomas Schier of Burlington, Jim (Mary) Schier of Bradenton, FL, and Donald (Beverly) Schier of Burlington; one sister, Connie Schier of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Schier will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 24, 2014, at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Barbara Jean Johnson, 59 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday October 18, 2014 at her home. She was born September 1, 1955 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary Jane Adamson Buck. On October 18, 1975, she married Murl E. Johnson in Burlington, Iowa.

Mrs. Johnson worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Burlington Care Center and the Des Moines County Home. She was a member of the Veteran’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Michelle (Heath) Platz of Ankeny, IA, two sons, Eric (Deena) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, Patrick, (Cindy) Johnson of Santa Fe, TX, fifteen grandchildren, two sisters, Belinda and Cheryl Buck, both of Des Moines, IA, and two brothers, William Buck, Jr.,of Santa Fe, TX and Timothy Buck of Louisiana. She was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Jonathan Johnson.

Vera Lee Wright, 91 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa, died at 5:55 pm Friday, October 17, 2014 at The Madison, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born April 20, 1923 at Brookfield, Missouri, the youngest of 10 children of George Davis and Anna Elizabeth (Bivens) Ross. On March 9, 1941, she married Edward Clarence Wright at Brookfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death.

She has been a resident of Fort Madison since 1954. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She loved to play the organ.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Hart, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandsons (and one on the way), and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, four sisters, one son Larry Wright and one granddaughter, Terri Ross.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am Wednesday October 22 , 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A funeral service will follow and be held at 11:00 am Wednesday October 22, 2014 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Agnes Marie Rhodes, age 90, died Saturday October 18, 2014 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center. The daughter of William and Tillie (Sedmihradsky) Wittkoff, she was born June 15, 1924 at Escanaba, Michigan. On October 6, 1946 she married Charles H. Rhodes in Chicago, Illinois; he died June 24, 1989. She graduated from high school in Michigan and went to college for nursing training. She worked as a CNA and LPN at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine.

Survivors include: one daughter, Melody Beeding of Wapello; one son, Chester Rhodes of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Sonya Beeding and Will Barb; Jerry Beeding and Cara Shaffer; Dawnivon and Ryan Adams; one stepgrandson Joseph Stanbary; 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Charles H. Rhodes III, two brothers and two sisters.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial service will be Friday October 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dudgeon-MCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. A general memorial has been established in her name.
