Mary F. Robberts, 80, of Burlington, died at 2:29 PM Sunday, October 26, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born January 20, 1934, in Fairfax, MO, she was the daughter of John and Madge McMahon Carter. On December 27, 1959, she married Merle Orville Robberts at Fairfax Baptist Church in Fairfax, MO. He died March 4, 1995.

Mary worked as an elementary teacher and a homemaker.

She was a 1952 graduate of Fairfax High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO in 1956.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was also an active member of many church groups and Lions Club with her husband, being one of the first female members. From 1996 to 2002 she volunteered at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, IA to give back after her husband died. She read her bible daily. She loved chocolate, doing yard work, and spending time with her grandchildren, especially reading to them.

Survivors include three daughters, Malinda (D. Paul) Wilcox of Martelle, Melissa (William) Jordan of Aurora, IL, and Marlis Robberts of Burlington; six grandchildren, David Paul Wilcox III, Catherine Ann Wilcox, Emma Leona Jordan, Anna Sharon Jordan, Isabella Mary Jordan, Jakob Merle Welch; one brother, Fred Carter of Fairfax, MO; two sisters, Dorothy Jones of Placerville, CA and Evelyn Heskett of Brownville, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark John Robberts, one sister, Virginia Swan and one brother, George Carter.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Zion United Church of Christ.

The funeral service for Mrs. Robberts will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Brice Hughes officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Zion United Church of Christ following the service. A Graveside Committal Service will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 30, 2014, in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs, IA.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.

Kathryn Ann Olson, 59, of Carman, Illinois, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, October 26, 2014 after a five year battle with triple negative breast cancer.

Born on June 30, 1955 in Galesburg, Illinois, she was the daughter of James Leo and Margaret Anne Wetmore Weber. She married James K. Olson on December 18, 1976 in Alexis, Illinois.

Kathy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Burlington Medical Center and belonged to the Visiting Nurses Association. Harmony Bible Church was a very important part of her life. She was a member there and loved to pray and praise the Lord. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, working outdoors and music. She loved children and was involved with Moms In Touch and the Cubbie Program.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; two daughters, Jamie (Andrew) Marner of Quincy, Illinois and Julie Olson of Carman, Illinois; two sons, Aaron (Dana) Olson of Austin, Texas and Luke Olson of Carman, Illinois; three grandchildren, Grace, Addy and Elijah; her mother, Margaret Weber of Galesburg, Illinois; three sisters, Laura (Fred) Isele of Moline, Illinois, Terrie (Lyle) Miller of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Beth Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three brothers, David (Nancy) Weber of Morrison, Illinois, Tom Weber of Lansing, Michigan and Jim (Kim) Weber of Keller, Texas; one sister-in-law, Sandra Kissinger of Iowa City, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Randall (Suzanne) Olson of Huber Heights, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The funeral service for Kathryn Olson will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Harmony Bible Church, Danville, Iowa. Pastor Nathan Williams will officiate. A time of food and fellowship will immediately follow the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established for Great River Christian School. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.
