Mona Mary Dwight, 91, of Burlington, died at 7:55 PM Monday, October 27, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 14, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Albert Frederick and Clara Alvina Jackson Gerdom. She married John R. Dwight on February 14, 1946, in Burlington. They later divorced.

Mona worked at National Research Bureau and Schramms.

She was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was of the Protestant faith. She loved playing tennis and was the city tennis champion at the age of 18. She also enjoyed watching television, especially her favorite show, NCIS. She was a generous and loving woman, who held no grudges. She received lots of joy and comfort from her dogs Molly, Tinkerbelle, and JoJo. Her favorite singers were Perry Como, Eddie Arnold, Von Monroe, and Andy Williams. Most importantly she cherished time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Tim (Nancy) Dwight of Park Rapids, MN, and Michael (Christine) Dwight of Burlington; two daughters, Mary (Owen) Martsching of Mount Ayr, and Martha Kibling of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Warren Gerdom, one sister, Jean Harris and one great-grandchild, Liam Kibling.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

The Celebration Of Life for Mrs. Dwight will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Parkside First Baptist Church with the family officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Parkside First Baptist Church following the service.

Memorials have been established for PAW Animal Shelter in Ft. Madison and Great River Hospice.

Martha E. Voigt, 98, of West Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

 

Born on October 29, 1915 in Gladstone, Illinois, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Ellis Babcook. She married Henry W. Voigt on April 6, 1932 in Oquawka, Illinois. He died on October 23, 1971.

 

Martha was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sweets, walking, traveling on bus trips, social activities, exercising at Klein Center and good songs that she could tap to the beat. She was also an avid reader. Wednesday would have been Martha’s 99th birthday, so on this day her family and friends will be celebrating her life with many fond remembrances. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Virgil) Rust of West Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Ernest (Linda) Voigt and Robert (Deborah) Voigt, both of Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter, Laura Freedman.

 

Funeral services for Martha Voigt will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 Prugh’s Chapel. Chaplain Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. A memorial has been established for Klein Center Activity Fund. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.

 

Wilbur Charles Brown, 95, of Mt. Union, died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 31, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor James Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union. Visitation will begin after noon on Thursday, October 30, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established to the New London United Methodist Church and to the Burlington Senior Citizens Center.
