Obituaries Friday October 31st

Martha E. Voigt, 98, of West Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

Born on October 29, 1915 in Gladstone, Illinois, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Ellis Babcook. She married Henry W. Voigt on April 6, 1932 in Oquawka, Illinois. He died on October 23, 1971.

Martha was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sweets, walking, traveling on bus trips, social activities, exercising at Klein Center and good songs that she could tap to the beat. She was also an avid reader. Wednesday would have been Martha’s 99th birthday, so on this day her family and friends will be celebrating her life with many fond remembrances. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Virgil) Rust of West Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Ernest (Linda) Voigt and Robert (Deborah) Voigt, both of Burlington, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter, Laura Freedman.

Funeral services for Martha Voigt will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 at Prugh’s Chapel. Chaplain Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

Patricia Ann Hardin, 77 years of age, was born in Maynard, Iowa on August 4, 1937 and passed away on October 27, 2014, at Emerald Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Cedar City, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean A. Hardin, and parents Dorothy Wittenberg Arnold and James Brown. Patricia is survived by her two children: daughter, Peggy Kleinkopf (David) of Danville, Iowa; son, Brad Hardin of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, James Brown (Beverly of Amana, Iowa; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Patricia married Dean Hardin on June 11, 1955. During her life she was in sales selling high end jewelry. She also worked in telemarketing and upon retiring worked part-time with the elderly doing home health care.

Due to progressed Alzheimer’s disease, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in May of 2007, where she resided until being placed at Emerald Ponte Assisted Living in November of 2010. She enjoyed conversing and helping with the residents until she could no longer do so. Her joys and passions in life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, reading, taking care of her fruit, vegetable and flower gardens and caring for the elderly. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery in Oakville. A luncheon gathering of family and close friends will follow at the Corner Market in Wapello.

Junior August Otto, age 88, of Muscatine, died Thursday morning, October 30, 2014, at Trinity Hospital in Muscatine. The son of August Nelson and C. O. Geraldine Webb Otto, he was born on April 21, 1926 in Oakville. He married Marjorie Louise Kerr on February 26, 1949 in Morning Sun. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2005.

Junior attended Wapello schools, served in the US Navy during WW II and completed and graduated from Wapello High School in 1947. He was an electrician working through the IBEW Union. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 388 and the American Legion Post 27 both of Muscatine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, and playing musical instruments. A highlight for him was the Honors Tour to Washington D.C. in 2009 through Muscatine.

His family includes two daughters, Linda & Raymond Kimball of Illinois City, Illinois and Wendy Otto of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Lisa Newton, Lance & Jean Garner, and Laramie & Becky Garner; five great grandchildren, Jacee, Hunter, Jaden, Jordan, and Sherra; two great great grandsons, Drake and Charlie; his beloved canine companion, Teddy; four sisters, LaMaye, Mary, Pat, and Maxine; two brothers, Robert and Rex; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; two brothers, John and Harlan; and a sister, Sharon.

Following cremation a private burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery. A family gathering will be held later at his daughter’s home in Illinois City.

Ethel Jean Goble, 75, of Burlington, died at 5:35 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at The Madison in Fort Madison.

Born August 3, 1939, in Elberon, IA, she was the daughter of Fred and Lucille Konicek Parizek. On November 27, 1957 she married Larry Kiesel in Vinton, IA. They later divorced. She then married Stan Goble at Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Ethel was a factory worker in Iowa City and Burlington. She also was an office manager for CA Woodruff Dentistry, worked for LaMont Ltd., owner/operator of Haller’s Tavern and was a part-time hostess of Steve’s Place.

She was a graduate of Keystone Consolidated High School in Keystone, IA.

She was a member of the Burlington Gym where she also was an officer and bar manager. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, playing slot-machines, suduko, and her cat, Misty. She was a lifetime bowler, including bowling on the Office Girl League in Burlington. She had a very large coffee cup collection, well over 100 coffee cups. She was a turtle.

Survivors include one son, Douglas (Paula) Kiesel of Burlington; one daughter, Vicki Sholl of West Point, IA; one grandson, Forrest Gerst of North Liberty, IA; several step-children; several step-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon (Wilma) Parizek of Elberon, IA, and Leland (Beverly) Parizek of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Lillian (Lester) Musel of Clinton, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Bernice Dulin, and one sister and brother in infancy, Margaret and Stanley.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

The memorial service for Mrs. Goble will be 11:30 AM Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Mark McBride officiating. Following the service the family will greet family and friends in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home for a time of food and fellowship.
