Election Day Tomorrow — No More Nasty Commercials

Tomorrow’s(It’s) election day and the polls are open in Iowa from 7 am til 9 pm and in Illinois from 6 am til 7 pm. Here’s a brief rundown of some of our local races…..

In Des Moines County — Democrat Ann Distelhorst is challenging incumbent Republican Tom Broeker for the only open seat on the 3-member Board of Supervisors…incumbent Democrat Amy Beavers, who was appointed to the County Attorney’s post when Pat Jackson retired, is running for election against Republican Trent Henkelvig…and there are seven candidates for five openings on the Des Moines County Agricultural Extension Council: Barbara Kerr, Dean Van Ness, John Dockendorff, Alan Mohr, Sandy Krell-Andre, Brenda Wischmeier and Daniel Beckman.

The other races on the Des Moines County ballot are for U-S Senator…Democrat Bruce Braley, Republican Joni Ernst and four other candidates…..U-S House…incumbent Democrat Dave Loebsack versus GOP challenger Mariannette Miller-Meeks…..Governor and Lt. Governor…Jack Hatch & Monica Vernon for the Democrats, Terry Branstad & Kim Reynolds, the Republican incumbents…along with three other sets of candidates from the Iowa Party, the Libertarian Party and the New Independent Party…..for Secretary of State…among Democrat Brad Anderson, Republican Paul Pate and two others…..for State Auditor…GOP incumbent Mary Mosiman and Democrat Jonathan Neiderbach…..for Treasurer…incumbent Democrat Mike Fitzgerald, Republican challenger Sam Clovis and a Libertarian candidate…..Agriculture Secretarty…Republican incumbent Bill Northey, Democratic challenger Sherrie Taha and a candidate from the New Independent Party…..and State Attorney General…Democratic incumbent Tom Miller or Republican challenger Adam Gregg.

State Representative Dennis Cohoon is running unopposed, as are Des Moines County Treasurer Janelle Nalley-Londquist…County Recorder Lisa Schreiner…Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners Brian Messer and Maureen Hutchcroft for 4-year terms and Bob Hinson for a two-year term…..and all of the local judges, who either get a yes or no on whether they should be retained.
