Margaret Lou Miller Roules, age 86, of Mediapolis, died Saturday evening, November 1, 2014, at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis. The daughter of Rex Miller and Ruth Boley Miller, she was born on January 31, 1928 on their farm near Bonaparte. Margaret attended Franklin School from 1933 to 1941 and graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1946. She graduated from Parsons College in 1950 with a B.A. Degree in English and taught English at Keosauqua High School from 1950 to 1953. She married J. Fredric Roules on September 12, 1953 in Big Mound Methodist Church. In 1953-1954 she worked as a secretary for the University of Iowa College of Nursing while ‘Doc’ finished medical school. Beginning in 1954 she assumed her most important role – Mom.
Margaret was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis including the United Methodist Women and teaching Sunday School. She was active as a leader in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed politics and was active in the Republican Party throughout her lifetime. She was passionate about the need for a community auditorium and the continuing success of the Mediapolis Community Theatre. She was also supportive of education and a lifelong learner and teacher. She and her husband and a few others were responsible for the establishment and development of what is now Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab. Margaret will be remembered as a friendly individual, always with a smile and a very positive attitude.
Her family includes three children and one grandchild, Jane Jacobson (John) of Ames, Christine Roules and daughter ChuLi of Shanghai, and Daniel Roules also of Shanghai. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J. F. ‘Doc’ Roules on March 1, 2014.
There will be a visitation with the family from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. The funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating, followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab, the Mediapolis Community Theatre, and the First United Methodist Church.

Larry F. Hensley, 71 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday November 2, 2014 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born April 8, 1943 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Henry F. and Elma Mae Allshouse Hensley. On March 5, 1967, he married Bonnie Lee McCarty in Vermont, Illinois.

Larry was raised in the Sciota, Illinois area and attended schools in Blandinsville and Sciota. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received when a land mine exploded near him. He was employed as an assembler at General Electric for fifteen years.

He was a member of the Stronghurst Lions Club, and a former member of the MST Fire Department, JayCees, and Stronghurst Zoning Board. He had helped with Boy Scouts and Habitat For Humanity for many years. He was a member of Monmouth I.O.O.F. Lodge #61 of Monmouth, Illinois and the Macomb Rebekah Lodge # 342 and served in several positions in both of those organizations. He was also a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Scott (Jenny) Hensley of Loraine, IL and Douglas Hensley. Also surviving at seven grandchildren, Shawna, Katie, Samantha, Todd, Jonathon, Tyler and Raven. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Hensley.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 6, 2014 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, with Pastor Karna Peterson officiating. Burial with military rites will follow. Odd Fellows Rites will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Sronghurst, followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m.. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst United Methodist Church, Odd Fellows-Rebekah Scholarship Fund, Illinois I.O.O.F. Richard D. “Rick” Link, 57 of rural Biggsville, Illinois died at 9:04 a.m. Sunday November 2, 2014 at OSF Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. He was born January 18, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Charles L. and Polly Masters Link. On September 22, 1978, he married Peggy Pulse. They later divorced. On October 12, 1991, he married Patricia Bixenman. They later divorced.

Rick was a 1975 graduate of Southern High School in Stronghurst. He had worked at the Bluebird Bus Manufacturing Plant in Mount Pleasant for a time, then later farmed in the Biggsville area for many years. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Henderson County Farm Bureau.

Rick loved farming with his mother and brother. He had a small herd of cattle that he enjoyed tending.

With great determination, Rick was able to climb into his combine this fall and pick corn; he got the job done.

His daughters and granddaughters were his greatest joy, and spending time with them brought him much happiness. His family was so important to him throughout his battle with cancer. They provided strength, support and love.

Survivors include two daughters, Ashley Link of Biggsville, IL, Cassidy (Cody) Minton of Burlington, IA, one step daughter, Melissa Wood of Burlington, his mother, Polly Link of Media, one granddaughter, Carlee Link, two step granddaughters, Takarai and Ziah Bell, one sister, Vicki (John) Keane of Media, IL, one brother, Chuck (Donna) Link of Stronghurst, and his significant other, Stacey Schramm of Stronghurst, IL. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews, Jenny (Mike) Wood, Robyn (Phil) Long, Kristina (Joe) Hathaway, Lisa (and fiancé Travis) Keane-Brown, Laura (Markus) Bruce, Chuck (Hanna) Keane and twelve great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

The funeral service for Mr. Link will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday November 7, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Dan Ashton officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, near Media. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established, and will be designated later.
