Branstad Wins Lee County at Last!

There was no competition for any of the candidates in Lee County except in the six-way race for five seats on the Agricultural Extension Council.

Vicki Kokjohn led the way with 5,349 votes…followed by Steven Newberry with 5,300…Tom Mohrfeld with 5,251…Rick Tebbs with 4,566…and Kala Anderson with 4,299. Tricia Knipper finished out of the running with 3,560 votes.

Governor Terry Branstad made it a point…many times…to say that he wanted to win Lee County…and he did, yesterday, for the first time ever. Lee County voters gave the incumbent Republican and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds 5,627 votes…just under 53%…to Democrat Jack Hatch and Monica Vernon’s 4,618…just over 43%. The rest of the votes went to candidates from the Iowa, Libertarian and New Independent Parties…plus 7 write-ins.
