Nine Men Run for Burlington City Council Seat; Johnson the Last

Nine candidates and one opening.

That’s the scenario for a primary election next month for a vacant seat on the Burlington City Council. Last Friday was the deadline for those with an interest in serving the remaining three years of Becky Shockley’s term to get their nominating petitions signed and returned to the County Auditor’s office…and the last man to do so was Jeff Johnson of 111 South Adams Street. He’ll be joined on the ballot by several former Council members…Jim Davidson, Chris Reed and John Sandell…Marcques Derby, Leo Hallowell, Kevin Long, Tracey Watts and Dan Wischmeier. (No women are running.) The top two vote-getters on December 2nd will move on to a December 30th special election to determine the winner.

There’s another election on the 2nd as well, for those who live in the West Burlington School District. Two men…Lee Boughton of 602 West Mt. Pleasant and Brent Mixer of 118 Swan Street will compete for an opening on the WB School Board.
