Local Twp Officials Count on Coffee Cups for Wins

No changes, following yesterday’s(Mon) canvass of Des Moines County’s November 4th elections…but there are a few winning township officials whose names were picked out of coffee cups.

In Concordia Township, Alan Schwartz is now a trustee, assuming he wants the job. He and Dave Strabala each received two write-in votes, but Schwartz’s name was drawn by one of the county Supervisors, so he wins. In Huron Township, seven people got one write-in each, but three of them turned out not to be township residents, so Bill Ivins’ name was plucked from the cup among the four that remained.

For Jackson Township Clerk, there were three names written in with a single vote each, and Cheryl Hillyard’s name was drawn. And for Pleasant Grove Township Clerk, there were no names on the ballot and Melissa Tucker was written in five times, so it’s hers if she wants it.
