Crusaders March On, Tigers Tamed

Holy Trinity won and New London lost, in the Iowa girls state volleyball tournament Class 1A quarterfinals last night.

The top-rated Crusaders swept #8 LeMars Gehlen 25-15, 25-13 and 25-17 at the U-S Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. Holy Trinity…now 46-4…will take on 4th-ranked Tripoli(27-13) tonight at 6 o’clock in the semifinals.   The Panthers got to the semi’s by beating 5th-rated New London 25-13, 25-11 and 25-21. The Tigers’ season ends with a record of 35-8.

 

Ft. Madison head football coach Todd McGhghy has resigned. The 7-year veteran…who came to the Bloodhounds from Iowa Wesleyan College…leaves with an overall record of 14-49, including 1-8 this past season.   The school board will affirm his resignation at its next meeting.

 

Yesterday was national letter-of-intent signing day and Mediapolis wrestler Cole Erickson committed to the University of Iowa.   Meanwhile, two Mepo BFF’s also signed letters yesterday – Andrea Larson will play basketball for Wayne State in Nebraska…and Heidi Hillyard has formally committed to UNI’s hoops program.
