Obituaries Thursday November 13th

Melbaline “Melba” Hostetter, 89, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at her home.

 

Born February 15, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Chester L. and Effie M. Hanes Hills. On October 5, 1946, she married John David Hostetter in Burlington.

 

Melba worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, as a homemaker until her children were raised, and retired from Winegard in 1981 where she worked as an antenna assembler for 15 years.

 

She loved to travel and enjoyed living in the country and seeing the wildlife. Even though she had Alzheimer’s, her husband took care of her at home until the very end. She loved her family very much.

 

Survivors include her husband, John; one son, John David (Diane) Hostetter, Jr. of Burlington; one daughter, Pamela Ann Bergquist of West Burlington; four grandsons, Roy Hostetter and John E. (Billie) Hostetter, both of Burlington, Frank (Amy) Hostetter of West Burlington, and Brian (Lydia) Bergquist of Danville; four great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Marcidell “Marcie” Spearman of Burlington and Marilyn Shipley of Kansas City, MO; and 17 nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one step-brother, and one son-in-law. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. Private burial will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.

Margarita Chiprez, 87, of Burlington, died at 8:30 PM Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 5, 1927, in Del Rio, TX, she was the daughter of Atanasio and Piedad Areasola Alvarez. On March 29, 1946, she married Jesus Arturo Chiprez in Texas.  He died October 17, 2012.

Margarita worked at Williams and Dickies in Uvalde, TX and then at Champion Spark Plug inBurlington.

She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening and especially attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include two sons, Enrique “Chip” (Junellen) Chiprez of Loveland, CO and Art (Sue) Chiprez of Burlington; one daughter, Rosalinda (Socorro) Perez of Burlington; four grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Chiprez, Melissa (Brian) Krieger, Angelica (Eric) Perez-Hall, and Marcos (Annie Larson) Perez; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lauren, Isaiah, Julian, Adrian, Luna, Drew, Carson, and Isabella; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria Limones of Uvalde, TX and several nieces and nephews,

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 3:00 PM Rosary Service until 5:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2014, at  Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Chiprez will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 17, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Hai Dinh as the Celebrant and Rev. Father Bruce DeRammelaere as the Concelebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John’s cafeteria following the burial.

A memorial has been established to SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.

Rita M. Hasson , 90, of Burlington, died at 7:12 PM Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born January 10, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William  Edward and Frances Mary Ebert Bentler. On November 6, 1946, she married F. W. “Speck” W. Hasson in Burlington.  He died March 27, 1999.

Rita worked as a supervisor for the telephone company for over 11 years.  She managed the shoe department at Younkers and worked at Laws Jewelry and JC Penney Co.

She was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.  She enjoyed being outdoors doing her gardening, she enjoyed baking and was a wonderful cook.  She always made everyone feel welcome and was a very giving person. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy (Mike) Dick of Burlington; two grandchildren, Kristin Dick and Tyler Dick, two brothers, William Bentler, Jr. of Burlington and Joseph Bentler of Lincoln, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Barbara Lemley, Mary Frances Clary, and Catherine “Kate” Adolphson, and one brother Robert Bentler.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014, at  Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Hasson will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father David G. Steinle as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary’s parish center following the burial.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
