Joan Priscilla Cornelius, 75,

 Survivors:  She is survived by her husband, Billy; one daughter, Jeannine Cornelius (Dave Warnik) of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Michael (Anita) Tressel of Marlton, New Jersey and Tom (Virginia) Tressel of Palm Bay, Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. The Celebrant will be Fr. Marty Goetz. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

Interment: will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

 Other arrangements: No formal visitation is planned; friends may call to pay their respect at Prugh’s Chapel on Thursday from noon until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.prughfuneralservice.com.

 

Irene May Devore, age 89, of Wheatland and formerly of Wapello, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at Genesis Hospital in DeWitt.  The daughter of Levi Woodruff and Hallie Harriet Conkling Huff, she was born on May 11, 1925 in Muscatine.  Irene married Vernon L. Devore on May 30, 1946 in Wapello.  He preceded her in death on January 18, 2001.

 

She graduated from Wapello High School in 1943 and attended Muscatine Junior College.  Irene was a homemaker.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden.

 

Her family includes two sons, Rev. David (Anita) Devore of Saugus, California and Harlan (Linda) Devore of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two daughters, Muriel (Bill) Henning of Oak Park, Illinois and Corrinne (Steve) Tryon of Rochester, New York; a son-in-law Bruce Funk of Iowa City; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Watt of Molina, Colorado; and a brother, Dale Huff of Penrose, Colorado.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; a daughter, Shirlee Funk; and a brother, Lynn Huff.

 

The funeral ceremony for Irene Devore will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. David Devore officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.  The family will meet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral.

Delbert Allen Dean, 84, of Mediapolis, died at 5:52 PM Monday, December 1, 2014, at his home.

 

Born April 30, 1930, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Allen and Grace Ann Dean. On June 24, 1950, he married Dorothy Elaine Fletcher in Iowa City.  She died May 14, 2014.

 

Delbert worked for General Electric for 30 years, PRP in Mediapolis, J.I. Case Co, and Klein Manufacturing.  He drove the school bus for the Mediapolis Community School District.  He lived and worked on the Dean family farm a century farm.

 

He was a graduate of Huron High School.

 

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

 

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and working on the family farm.  He also enjoyed going to the Steamboat Senior Center and the Dancing Barn in Mt. Pleasant, where he loved to dance.

 

Survivors include one son, Larry Dean of Burlington, one daughter, Brenda Schwerin of Mediapolis, five grandchildren, Matthew Dean, Jeff Dean, Martha Dean, Skyler Schwerin, and Emily Schwerin; two great-grandchildren, Greyson Dean, and Harlan Schwerin; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Friday, December 5, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the visitation. The family will be present from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The memorial service for Mr. Dean will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Wally Reynolds officiating.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.
