Obituaries Thursday December 11th

Jerry Lee Squier, Sr., 67, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 9:17 PM Monday, December 8, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on January 11, 1947 in Kampsville, Illinois, the son of Arthur and June Vetter Squier. On September 24, 1973 he married Rosemary E. Cox in Carthage, IL. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2013.

Early in life Jerry served in the U.S. Army. He then owned and operated Squier’s Auto Salvage in Fountain Green, IL. Jerry enjoyed working and watching Westerns, especially John Wayne classics. Mr. Squier loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by 3 children, Art (Jana) Squier of Ft. Green, Jerry (Julie) Squier, Jr. Of Good Hope, IL, and Melissa Squier of LaHarpe, 2 step-children Mike McMillan of Morton, IL and Debbie (Kirk) Whittenburg of Peoria, IL, 10 grandchildren, Kayla, Braxton, Mason, Tristan, Cory, Shanda, Alyssa, Julissa, Carter, Jaylee, one great-granddaughter, Evalin, 2 sisters, Robyn Tatum of Carthage, IL, Marlin Gunn of Carthage, 2 brothers, Terry “Butch” Squier of Roanoke, IL and John Squier of Carthage.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, Tyler Kiley and 5 brothers.

A Celebration Of Life will be held Monday December 15, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Annex in LaHarpe. A memorial fund has been established for the family. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of LaHarpe is assisting the family. Condolences may be left at www.banksandbeals.com.

 

Donna Lee Moyer, 67, of Burlington, died at 5:05 PM, Tuesday, December 9, 2104, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born February 8, 1947, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Elmer Leroy and Signe Alfrieda Giese Moyer.

 

Donna worked for Walmart for 29 years, retiring in August of 2013.  She previously worked for National Research Bureau.

 

She was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

She was a member of Salvation Army.  She enjoyed gardening and family events.

 

Survivors include one sister, Jane Moyer of Burlington; three uncles, Bobby Moyer of Burlington, John Moyer of FL, and Jim Moyer of Eugene, OR; and one aunt, Mary Hurria of ID; and many cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, December 12, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Miss Moyer will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Major Allen Otto officiating.  Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established for Salvation Army.
