Burlington Council to Step Up to Plate Tonight on Flood Grant

The Burlington City Council meets this(Mon) evening at 5:30 and will be asked to authorize an application for a state grant worth more than $66-million for flood prevention along the downtown riverfront and elsewhere.

If approved at that amount, the City would be required to match up to $21-million over 20 years. The Council will also vote tonight(Mon) on another grant application, this one for cleanup of the former Dresser Rand site. Members are also expected to approve fee hikes for swimming at Dankwardt Park Pool and for renting the park shelters and sites.

The Burlington School Board meets tonight(Mon) at 7 and will be asked to throw its support behind the City’s flood mitigation efforts…and members will discuss the budget for dropout prevention. The Board will also talk about the recent concerns expressed following a student’s in-school detention and the principal who forgot to let her go home.

The West Burlington School Board tonight(Mon) will talk about its options in the wake of the December 2nd failure of the bond issue and PPEL vote…..and a decision may be made on the KUNO program. The computer devices haven’t performed as advertised and West Burlington is forming a coalition with some other area districts to put pressure on the distributor. (The WB school board meeting tonight is at 7 o’clock.)
