Robert Dean Cortelyou, 73, of Urbana, IL, formerly of LaHarpe, IL passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at his home.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Pastor Shawn Cortelyou officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Mrs. Billie Jo Keith, 90, of New London died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the New London Care Center.

 

Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor James Roth will officiate.  Burial will be in Burge Cemetery.  Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Tuesday, with the family greeting friends for one hour prior to the funeral.  A memorial has been established.

 

Richard Lawrence Shofe, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, died at his home on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

 

Born on July 6, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Alfred L. and Nellie F. Hand Shofe. He married Arlene A. Wise in November, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa; she died on April 9, 1995. He married Darlene Stucker on Feb. 1, 2000.

 

Richard graduated from Burlington High School. He was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life, Farm Bureau, and State Farm. He retired in February of 1997. He was a member of Burlington Baptist Church.

 

Dick enjoyed fishing, reading his Bible, volunteering for R.S.V.P., working with his hands, home remodeling, yard work and traveling. He especially enjoyed teasing his grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, Stephen (Jackie) Shofe and Arlen (Mary Beth) Shofe, both of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Debra (David) Rogerson of Trophy Club, Texas; 8 grandchildren, Wendy, Cindee, Troy, Jeri, Erin, Eric, Stephanie and Crystal; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hoffman of Burlington, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; one son, Eugene Adrian Shofe; two grandsons, Brian and Jeff Shofe; one great-grandson, Xaiver Andersen; one sister, Katherine Masters; and his parents.

 

Funeral services for Dick Shofe will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Burlington Baptist Church, 1225 Hagemann Ave., Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Kendall Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends in Prugh’s Chapel on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Burlington Baptist Church and R.S.V.P.

Myrtle Schwerin, 80, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away in comfort, with her family by her side at her home on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2014.

 

Born on April 16, 1934 in Lineville, Iowa, she was the daughter of Cecil and Opal Bardwell Jones.

 

Myrtle worked at Champion for 34 years and retired from there. She enjoyed yard sales, auctions, country & western music and watching the Hawkeyes. Myrtle was a loving and caring person who sacrificed much for her family. She was of the Methodist faith.

 

She is survived by three sons, Todd (Kathy) Dykes, Dannie Petty and Randy (Alicia) Dykes, all of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Connie (Randy Mayer Sr.) Thornton of Mediapolis, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Don Petty, Phillip Petty, Jeremy Thornton, Gayle Palmer, Jason Dykes, Dustin Dykes, William and Mia; 11 great-grandchildren, Noah, Jonah, Bethany, Ethan, Eli, Caleb, Jaden, Raven, Dakota, Cole, Adrianne, Aiden and Emma; and nephew, Marvin Jack.

 

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Petty; one sister, Margaret Jack; one granddaughter, Adonna; and her parents.

 

The graveside ash committal service for Myrtle Schwerin will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. No formal visitation is planned, cremation has been entrusted to the loving care of Prugh Funeral Service. A memorial has been established in memory of Myrtle Schwerin.
