Sharon Elizabeth Burns, age 46, of Oakville, died Monday evening, December 22, 2014, at her home. The daughter of William Duane and Barbara E. Chinlund Gerst, she was born on July 7, 1968 in Burlington. She married Michael ‘Mike’ Burns on September 21, 2002 in Oakville.
Sharon graduated from Wapello High School in 1986 and attended business college in the Quad Cities. She worked as a cook for several restaurants in the Quad Cities and later at Gusto’s, her family restaurant, in Oakville and then others in Oakville. In recent years she worked at S & J Tube in Wapello.
She enjoyed cooking, playing pool, and fishing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oakville.
Her family includes her husband, Mike; a daughter, Rachel at home; her mother, Barbara Gerst of Oakville; her grandmother, Verlee Gerst of Wapello; two brothers, Bill Gerst of Oakville and Robert ‘Bob’ Gerst of Mediapolis; and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Duane.
The funeral ceremony for Sharon Burns will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 29. 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery in Oakville. The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the American Cancer Society.
