Davidson Wins Special Election

Jim Davidson is the winner of the special Burlington election that featured two former mayors running for a seat on the City Council.

The final tally…with 1,069 votes cast…a 6.1% turnout…was Davidson 651 and John Sandell 408, with eight write-in votes cast. That comes out to just over 61% for the retired high school business teacher and coach…and about 38% of the total votes for the former local businessman.

Davidson’s margin of victory was about the same in all three polling places — 60 to 62%…to Sandell’s 36 to 38 1/2%. Davidson will serve the remainder of Becky Shockley’s term; about three years. He joins Mayor Shane McCampbell…and members Becky Anderson, Tim Scott and Bob Fleming on the council, with budget talks set to begin next week.

The final results again: Jim Davidson over John Sandell, 651 votes to 408.
