Obituaries Wednesday January 14th

Danny Lee Sands, age 64 of Mediapolis, died unexpectedly at his home Monday January 12, 2015.  The son of Dick and Barbara (Schneider) Sands, he was born October 5, 1950 at Burlington.  On July 19, 1968 he married Jamie Griffith in Morning Sun.  He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1968.  He lettered in 5 sports in high school.  He attended SCC in Burlington for two years and graduated from NEMSU with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1972.  He was a pitcher for SCC and NEMSU during college.  Danny retired in 2010 from Muscatine power and water.  He worked as an electrician for many local contractors. He was a member of the Mediapolis United Methodist Church, where he was active in the worship team, the choir, and the hospitality committee.  He was a board member of the Mediapolis Community Theatre.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He also looked forward to Card night with his buddies.  His travels always included stops at Goodwill and thrift shops along the way.  He loved a good bargain.

 

Survivors include:  his wife, Jamie; his Mother Barbara; one son Jeff Sands and  friend Mikki and her children Colby and Cami Whitaker; one daughter, Wendee and Jason Chase and grandchildren Emma and Ryan Chase; three sisters, Betsy and Fran Davis, Carla and Dan Weber, and Judy Sands.

 

He was preceded in death by his Father and grandparents.

 

Cremation has been accorded.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mediapolis United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jeff Kodis officiating.

 

The family will meet with friends on Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.  Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church and the Morning Sun and Wapello Ambulance Services.

 

Lawrence Talbott, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Monday, January 12, 2015.

Lawrence was born on August 29, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Albert and Edna Gunn Talbott. He married the love of his life Shirley Ann Westgate on March 11, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa.

He served in the United States Army. Lawrence worked for Alliant Energy (formerly known as Iowa Sothern Utilities) for 46 years. He has been a baptized member of Jehovah’s Witnesses since July 31, 1954. His faith in God took first place in his life. He loved to share the Bible’s message of everlasting life in paradise here on earth. He had a solid faith in the resurrection hope made possible by the shed blood of Jesus.

In his younger days Lawrence traveled on motorcycle trips and enjoyed snowmobiling. He enjoyed maintaining his home and vehicles. He traveled the world; visiting many countries in

South America, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Canada.  He also visited every state in the

United States.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; three sons, Steven (Jane) Talbott of Centralia, Missouri, Larry Talbott of Burlington, Iowa and Gary Talbott also of Burlington; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lloyd, Leonard and Roy Talbert, two sisters, Betty and Lucille Talbott.

The memorial service for Lawrence Talbott will be held at Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 6760 Hunt Road, Burlington on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Elder Greg Fields will officiate.
