Unhappy RUSS Members Allowed to Leave After Paying Up

The Des Moines County Board yesterday(Tues) approved a resolution that will allow three members of the fractured RUSS consortium to get out…as long as Washington, Wapello and Mahaska Counties pay $61,000 in past-due fees by Ocotober 15th.

County Attorney Amy Beavers says the agreement…months in the making…should make it possible for the remaining seven counties to get sewer and septic systems built for small, unincorporated towns.  In fact, RUSS Executive Director Bruce Hudson says he’s already gotten a green light from Ollie, Iowa for a new system.

One thing the Des Moines County Board did not act on yesterday(Tues) was the Compensation Board’s recommendations for elected officials’ raises. New Chairman Jim Cary says he and his fellow Supervisors need more time to go through the rest of the department budget requests, which continue through this week and next.
