R.U.S.S. Split Becomes Legal

It’s on paper and it’s been signed.

Southeast Iowa’s Rural Utility Service Systems board has adopted an exit agreement, whereby three of its member counties…Mahaska, Wapello and Washington…are being allowed to leave the cooperative if each pays past-due membership fees of about $64,000 by October 15th.

The split leaves “RUSS” with seven counties…Des Moines, Lee, Henry, Louisa, Jefferson, Van Buren and Keokuk…who will continue to work together on group sewer…and individual septic…systems in small, unincorporated communities that don’t have them and would like them.
