Obituaries Friday January 23rd

Alma D. Crabbe, 76, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 1:20 AM Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at her home.

 

She was born February 21, 1938 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Denver and Cecilia Vanderboom Liggett. On August 29, 1959 she married Gene P. Crabbe in Quincy.

 

Alma worked as a cook at the Catholic School in Quincy from the late 1960’s until 1978. From 1986 until retiring in 1998 Alma worked as the Food Supervisor for the Illinois Prison System in Danville, IL. Mrs. Crabbe bowled with the Quincy Bowling League for 15 years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid South Side Boat Club in Quincy, and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City. She and he husband have resided in Dallas City for the last six years.

 

Survivors include her husband, Gene, two daughters, Julie Gale of Dallas City and Angela Crabbe of Fort Worth, TX, one son, Gene Crabbe of Gilbert, AZ, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five brothers, Daniel Liggett of Fort Madison, IA, Robert Liggett of Quincy, John Liggett of Timewell, IL, Joe Liggett of Belvidere, IL and Larry Liggett of Huntsville, TX and one sister, Mary Hainline of Sun City, AZ.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patricia Skiar.

 

The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. The family will receive friends at Banks & Beals Funeral Home Friday, January 30, 2015 from noon until 1:45 p.m. The body will be cremated following services. Frank William Titus, 79, of Burlington, died at 8:07 AM Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born June 30, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Alfred M. and Alvinia Brum Titus. On March 2, 1957, he married Mary Lou Westgate in Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington.  She died August 12, 2004.

 

Frank worked at the Burlington Fire Department where he was a Firefighter, EMT, Ambulance Driver and Pumper driver.  He had also worked as a farmer and had done home remodeling.

 

He was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War from February 15, 1953 until February 15, 1955.

 

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and VFW Post 10102.  He enjoyed carpentry work, fishing, and camping.

 

Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Hiland of Burlington, Catherine Harper of Danville, Karen (Jim) Bickel of Burlington and Tina Hunter of Choctaw, AR; one son, Frank (Donna) Titus, of Burlington; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three half brothers.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

There will be no visitation.

 

The graveside committal service for Mr. Titus will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 26, 2015, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating.

 

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Betty Jane Houtz, 87, Wapello died Thursday 1/22 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

She is survived by a son, David, of Fort Madison, 4 daughters, Karen McConahay of Wapello, Linda Houtz of Oakville, Judy Houtz of Minooka, IL and Cyndi Zimmerman of Naperville, IL, a sister, Joyce Burtalo of Burlington, a sister-in-law, Barbara Schindall of Burlington, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Monday 1/26 at Lunning Chapel with burial in the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery
