Saturday Legislative Forum to Focus on Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute

If you think the Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute should stay open, you may want to attend a legislative forum tomorrow(Sat.) morning at Iowa Wesleyan College.

Governor Terry Branstad, in his proposed budget for next fiscal year, did not provide any funding to keep the state-run mental health care centers in Mt. Pleasant or Clarinda open beyond June 30.

Chuck Palmer, the Director of Iowa’s Department of Human Services, which oversees the centers, will attend the first part of tomorrow’s forum, sponsored by State Representative Dave Heaton(R-Mt. Pleasant) and Senator Rich Taylor(D-Mt. Pleasant), who have both voiced their opposition to the Governor’s proposal.

The forum is from 8:30-10 am in IWC’s Chadwick Library and it’s open to everyone.
