Obituaries Wednesday January 28th

Dorothy R. Grant, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:50 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

Robert Edward LaVeine, 88, of West Burlington, died at 2:18 AM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born April 6, 1926, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward A. and Esther M. Heuer LaVeine. On December 20, 1955, he married Iona L. Tee in Monmouth, IL.

 

Bob grew up working with his family at The LaVeine Dairy and later in their Mobile Home manufacturing business.  He owned and operated Bob LaVeine Trailer Sales, a mobile home and RV dealership in West Burlington.

 

He was a US Army veteran.   He served the cities of West Burlington, Del Rio, TX, and Black Canyon City, AZ as a volunteer fireman.

 

Survivors include his wife Iona of 59 years; two sons, Michael LaVeine of Wilmington, NC, and Glenn LaVeine of St. Peters, MO; one daughter, Barbara LaVeine of Burlington; and two step-daughters, Leslee Coons of Bartlett, IL, and Cynthia Allen of Canberra, Australia.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald H. LaVeine.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The family will hold a private service.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.

William John Minster, 83, of Burlington, died at 12:25 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born September 16, 1931, in Newton, he was the son of Arthur and Margaret Mullenix Minster. On March 18, 1961, he married Mildred Bernice Morgan in Burlington. She died April 24, 2012.

 

Bill worked at the Burlington Municipal Waterworks for 37 years and had also worked at IAAP.

 

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Rupertus (DD 851) Destroyer.

 

He loved his sons and adored and loved his grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing and going to the casino

 

Survivors include two sons, Andy (Julie) Minster of Sperry, and Archie Minster of Burlington; three grandchildren, Zachary Minster, Brody Minster, and Bailey Minster; and nieces and nephews, Paul Morgan, Lauren Morgan, Bruce Morgan, Julie Barker, Robin Elder and Rita Haynes..

 

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Chuck Minster, Ozzie Minster, two sisters Doris Carter, Harriet Minster, and two nephews, Jerry Minster and Donny Minster.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Minster will be 1:30 PM Friday, January 30, 2015, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.

William “Bill” Curry, 82, of Danville, died at 7:22 AM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at his home.

 

Born October 12, 1932, in Kinderhook, IL, he was the son of Earl E. and Vivian Eckelburger Curry.  On June 25, 1955, he married Margaret J. Wynn at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington.

 

Bill was a Boilermaker for 40 years for Burlington Northern Railroad shops in West Burlington.

 

He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, serving from 1952 until 1955.

 

He was of the Methodist faith.  He enjoyed meeting his friends at McDonald’s for coffee every morning, watching horse and dog races, and driving.

 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; one son, William (Carol) Curry, Jr. of Lowell; one daughter, Brenda Lee Curry of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Braydon (Jessica) Curry of Lowell, Tristan (Jonathan) Schmit of Memphis, TN, Emily Curry of Lowell, and Chad Curry of West Burlington; seven great-grandchildren, Elijah Curry, Owen and Brooklyn Curry all of Lowell, and Elly Marta Schmit, Ruthie Schmit, Noomi Schmit, Charise Schmit, all of Memphis, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister in infancy.

 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Curry will be 10:30 AM Friday, January 30, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Simeon Counterman officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
