Obituaries Thursday January 29th

Dorothy R. Grant, 91, of Burlington, died at 3:50 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born May 30, 1923, in Argentina, KS, she was the daughter of Eliseo and Ignacia Rodriguez Murguia.  On October 12, 1951, she married William T. Collins in Burlington.  They later divorced.  On July 7, 1973, she married Robert E. Grant in Burlington. He died January 1, 2008.

 

Dorothy had worked at Van’s Lunch Box, J.S. Schramm Co., Riley Bros. Paint Co., and Credit Bureau of Burlington.

 

She was a 1940 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

She was of the Lutheran faith, and belonged to the Ruth Circle.

 

Survivors include one son, Terry A. Collins of Burlington; three step-daughters, Nancy Jacobs and Judy Kaltifleiter, both of Burlington, and Connie Stephens of Westerville, OH; two brothers, Joe Murguia of Zwingle, IA, and Raymond Murguia of Madrid, Spain; two sisters, Carmen Murguia of Ankeny, IA, and Mary Brinning of Wayland, IA; and seven nieces and ten nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

 

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Grant will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Susanne E. Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the fellowship hall at Messiah Lutheran Church following the burial.

 

Memorials have been established for Messiah Lutheran Church and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Diann Marie Yohe, 65, of West Burlington, died at 7:12 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born September 1, 1949, in Burlington, she was the daughter of David Harry and Mary Ann Kissinger Huston. On April 18, 1970, she married  Leslie Yohe in Burlington. They later divorced.

 

Diann worked as a librarian assistant for West Burlington Arnold Junior/Senior High School.

 

She was a 1967 graduate of West Burlington High School and a graduate of Southeastern Community College.

 

She attended Burlington Baptist Church.  She was a member of the West Burlington Alumni Association.  She had coached middle school girls volleyball.  She enjoyed reading, and helping with her granddaughters T-ball team.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, and West Burlington Falcons fan.  Diann enjoyed her job and all of the kids she met over the years at West Burlington schools.  She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include one son, Dan Yohe of Burlington; two daughters, Carissa (Ryan) Kelly of Clarence, IA, and Missy (Doak) Allen of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gage, Chloe, Bailey, Ethan, Blake, and Aubrey; one brother, David (Brenda) Huston of Burlington; two sister-in-laws, Debbie (Tim) Jones of Columbus Junction, IA, and Kay (Jim) Loerch of Thousand Oaks, CA.; and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Ryan.

 

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Yohe will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 2, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Kendall Adams officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at Burlington Baptist Church following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established.
