Obituaries Friday January 30th

Patricia Ann ‘Pat’ Parsons, age 86, of Wapello, died at her home Wednesday morning, January 28, 2015.

The daughter of Clair and Hazel Stone Clark, she was born on March 15, 1928 at Columbus Junction.  She married Jack Parsons on August 23, 1947 at Columbus Junction.  He preceded her in death on July 28, 2005.

 

She graduated from Columbus Community High School in 1946.  Patricia was an outstanding partner in the farming operation with Jack.  She participated in all phases of the operation.  Pat was the first woman in Iowa to get a Chemical Applicators license.  She traveled with Jack to Russia when he helped get a long term grain agreement negotiated.  Pat belonged to the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association.  She was a 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Farm Bureau.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Diane & Ed Vineyard of Wapello; two sons, Diane’s twin brother, Dave & Marla Parsons of Wapello and Gary & Bev Parsons of Wapello; seven grandchildren, Tanya Patzner, Elizabeth Vineyard, Valeria Vineyard, Trent Parsons, Kristen Svalstad, Todd Parsons, and Troy Parsons; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Smith of Burlington; a special friend, Bob Gabeline and his family; and her special pets and companions, Pork Chop and Tabby.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and three brothers, Bob, Keith, and Loren Clark.

 

The funeral ceremony for Pat Parsons will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.  Burial will follow at the Mallory Cemetery, rural Wapello.

 

The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

Marlys Fay Borchert, age 74, of Wapello, died Wednesday morning, January 28, 2015, at the Colonial Manor of Columbus Community in Columbus Junction.  The daughter of Harold W. and Marcella H. Dukek Fletcher, she was born on June 12, 1940 in Crookston, Minnesota.

 

She graduated from Wapello High School in 1958.  Marlys married Doyle Borchert on October 3, 1981 in Washington.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed babysitting.  She also enjoyed reading, watching her favorite TV shows, and cheering on her boys at sporting events.

 

Her family includes a son, Scott N. Tompkins of Crescent, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Tina Allen of Letts; a daughter, Lori L. & Paul Posey also of Crescent; two stepchildren, Steven Borchert and Victoria Borchert both of Muscatine; three grandsons, Aaron Allen of Nichols, Michael Allen of Columbus Junction, and Caleb Posey of Crescent; a very much anticipated great granddaughter; a step granddaughter, Amber Borchert of Bettendorf; a sister, Virginia ‘Ginger’ Delzell of Wapello; a brother, Jerry Fletcher of Louisville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

The funeral ceremony for Marlys Borchert will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello.  Pastor Mike Roberts will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.  The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday at the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the Keck Memorial Library in Wapello.

Mary Theresa  Reed, of Blandinsville, IL died at 1:01 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

 

Born in Beloit, WI, she was the daughter of William and Mary Rashid Ojile. On February 24, 1968, she married James Alfred  “Jim” Reed in Carthage, IL. He died February 27, 2014.

 

Mary was a homemaker.

 

She was of the Catholic faith.  She was an amazing cook and very artistic.  She enjoyed sewing, crafts, shopping, and ceramics.

 

Survivors include one brother-in-law, Bill Reed of Carthage, IL; one sister-in-law, Jeannette Ojile of Burlington; nieces and nephews, John (Jill) Ojile of St. Louis, MO, Louis Ojile II of St. Louis, MO, Robert Ojile II of Iowa City, IA, David Hammack of Key West, FL, Karen (Don) Geders of St. Louis, MO, Barbara  (John) Stieger of St. Louis, MO, Linda (Baxter) Leisure of St. Louis, MO, Regina (Phil Torissi) Ojile of St. Louis, MO, Robin (Rich) Muehlberg of St. Louis, MO, Angela Ojile of Phoenix, AZ, Julie (Ed) Hamlin of Fort McDowell, AZ, Lisa (Mike) Alexandropoulos of Burlington, IA, Bill (Anita) Reed of Athens, IL, Jim (Cathy) Reed of Oregon, IL, Susie Buckert of Des Moines, IA; several great nieces and great-nephews; and her best friends, Mary and Charles Hensley of Blandinsville.

 

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, William, Emil, Louis and Robert Ojile, one sister, Regina Hammack, and one sister-in-law, Sue Reed.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. and Mrs. Reed will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO with full military honors rendered.

 

A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Wilda Arlene Miller, 85, Donnellson, died Wednesday 1/28 at the Donnellson Health Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Westfall of Burlington and daughter-in-law, Linda Miller of Burlington, 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Tuesday 2/3 with the service to follow at 2.  Burial in the Aspen Grove Cemetery.
