Obituaries Monday February 2nd

Dorothy Elizabeth Odle, age 87, of Wapello, died Sunday morning, February 1, 2015, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center.  The daughter of Otto and Johanna Kuester Umlandt, she was born on June 10, 1927 in Muscatine.  Dorothy married Hilton B. Odle on May 31, 1953 in Muscatine.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 2009.

 

Dorothy graduated from Muscatine High School and attended Muscatine Junior College to receive her teaching certificate.  In later years she received her four year degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.  She was an elementary teacher first in Wapello and then later taught at both Lett’s and Grandview elementary schools and retired from teaching from L & M elementary school.

 

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello, the T.O.P.S. 1118 in Wapello, the Wapello Study Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Louisa County Retired Teachers.  She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and flower gardening.

 

Her family includes a daughter, Terri & Kirk McElhinney of Johnson City, Texas; a son, Steve & Anita Odle of Wapello; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hilton; a son, KC; and an infant sister.

 

The funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello with Rev. Jon Evans officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.  The family will meet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.  Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund Landscaping.

Helen D. Bargman, 94, West Burlington died Friday  1/30 at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center in West Burlington.

She is survived by a son John of Granger, Iowa, 2 daughters, Jane Muller of Reno, NV and Trosen of Kirksville, MO, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday 2/4 at Lunning Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be at 1030 AM Thursday 2/5 at Messiah Lutheran Church with burial in the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
