Obituaries Thursday February 5th

Candy Lynn Almendinger, 56, of Burlington, died at 2:40 AM Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born November 29, 1958, in Akron, OH, she was the daughter of Daniel Hale and Dora Maupin. On December 31, 1997, she married David Almendinger at the Zion United Church of Christ in Burlington.

 

Candy was a homemaker and social worker for various companies.

 

She graduated from Southeastern Community College before receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant.

 

Candy was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Burlington.  She loved gardening and her bunny collection.  She had the gift of a beautiful voice and could sing like an angel.  She also had a charisma about her that was hard not to love.

 

Survivors include her husband, David Almendinger of Burlington; three daughters, Reba Hale of Big Fork, MT, Priscilla Larson of Burlington, and Michelle (Tony) Schnicker of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Steven (Shannon) Almendinger of Cedar Rapids, Mike (Amanda) Almendinger of Burlington, and David Almendinger, Jr. of Burlington; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandbaby on the way; her father, Daniel Hale Sr. of Akron, OH; her mother, Dora Maupin of Akron, OH;  two sisters, Gabby (Reba) Hanford of Sterling Heights, MI and Charlene (Curt) Welsh of Cameron, MO; five brothers, Jim (Debby) Lee of Akron, OH, Daniel (Cocoa) Hale, Jr. of Akron, OH, Randy Hale of Auburn Hills, MI, Walter Dement of Barberton, OH, and Eddie (Jennifer) Dement of East Detroit, MI; and several nieces and nephews..

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. Almendinger will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor D. Dean Benton officiating.

 

Memorials have been established for the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Great River Hospice House.
