DMCo Board to Issue Short-Term Bonds and TIF Value Will Be Counted

The Des Moines County Board tried something new-and-different this(Tue) morning — it approved the issuance of up to $3-million in short-term bonds to pay for an insurance program.

Supervisor Tom Broeker says it’s permitted under state code, it’ll allow the county to decrease its overall levy request by 10 cents, and to use the value of all Tax Increment Finance District property in the county in coming up with overall property values.  Much of the TIF property in the county is in West Burlington.

On another front, AntennaCraft…a division of TE Electronics and its managing partner RadioShack…has announced that it may be closing, due to RadioShack’s bankruptcy filing. RadioShack’s H-R Manager in Texas says if a buyer can’t be found for the 17-19 West Mt. Pleasant Street facility in West Burlington by March 13th, it’s likely the plant will shut down, putting 23 non-union employees out of work.
