Burlington Council to Decide Fate of Silgan Proposal Tonight at 5:30

The Burlington City Council meets in special session today(Thur) and will discuss…then vote on…Silgan Containers’ request for a 20-year property tax abatement and waivers of building fees and connection charges at the Flint Ridge Business Park.

If it can get the incentives it wants from the City and State, Silgan says it has plans to build a 412,000 square feet packaging plant and warehouse on 34 acres of the Park, investing $25-million in the process. Once finished, Silgan says the new factory would employ about 120 people.

Mayor Shane McCampbell and Councilman Bob Fleming are both very optimistic about the potential deal.  McCampbell says the City Council meets this(Thur) evening and will have to decide if the 20-year tax abatement…and the waivers of building fees and connection charges are worth it.

Today’s special session is at 5:30 and the public is welcome, although input will be limited, according to McCampbell.
