Fire Season Rears its Ugly Head

$25,000 is the damage estimate from an apartment fire late last(Weds) night at 301 Maple Street in Burlington.

The renter…Nicole Foster…was not home at the time and Burlington & West Burlington firefighters were able to knock the blaze down within 40 minutes, preventing it from spreading to the other half of the Maple Hills duplex. The Red Cross was called in to help out the tenant. The cause of the fire is unknown but still being investigated.

Yesterday(Weds) afternoon around 3:40, firefighters were dispatched to 315 Marietta Street for a bathroom fire. When a crew got there, there was heavy smoke coming from the front doors, windows and eaves of the single-story wood-frame house. The occupants…Andromeda Marquez-Hulse and her daughter Gabriella, as well as two family dogs…were home, but managed to get out safely. The flames were contained to the bathroom and adjacent hallway but there’s smoke damage throughout the house, estimated at $15,000 to the building and $6,000 to its contents. Again, investigators are still trying to determine a cause.

There was another fire…this one last(Wed) night…at the Purple Cow Bar…in Alexandria, Missouri. It was described by witnesses as “big,” but no details have been released.
