Burlington City Council Approves Doran and Ward Economic Development Plan

The Burlington City Council has signed on to assist Doran and Ward in it’s $1.48 million expansion of it’s Burlington facility.

Doran and Ward Plant Manager Vance Hemke told the council that the expansion is expected to bring 13 new full time jobs to the area and will have an estimated $1.32 in economic impact for each dollar spent during expansion.

“This our idea of growth, what we’re trying to put into the community and into our operation in Burlington,” Hemke told the council during a Tuesday night board meeting.

Doran and Ward, a printing company, operates two facilities in Burlington.

City manager Jim Ferneau says that while the City of Burlington won’t provide any incentives themselves, a resolution was still required in order for the company to seek incentives from the state.

“They’re getting some credits from the state that will be tied to their new jobs…they’ll get some of their payroll taxes back. The state’s regulations still require a local agreement,” Ferneau told KBUR.

During the March city council meeting, the council will hold a public hearing on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2015-2016. It will be held on March 2nd at the Burlington City Hall.
