Local Students Well Vaccinated, According to IDPH Report

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa Department of Public Health report shows more than 90 percent of students have been vaccinated at the majority of public schools across the state.

The immunization audit report for the 2013-2014 academic year depicts the percentage of kindergarten through 12th-grade students who have received the vaccines required by Iowa law. Schools with enrollment of less than 100 students were not included in the report.

According to the report, 37 schools in Iowa reported 100 percent compliance with Iowa immunization requirements. The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, located in Fairfield, ranked the lowest in the state, with just more than 47 percent of its students vaccinated.

Schools in Des Moines County all showed high compliance. Burlington School District’s five elementary schools all had around 98% compliance. Burlington’s two middle schools averaged around 90% compliance, and Burlington High School had around a 95% compliance. In West Burlington, the elementary school had 95%, the Middle School had 92%, and the High School had 98%.

Mediapolis students were also well vaccinated. 98% of students at the elementary school and 98% of students at the high school all had up to date immunizations.

Notre Dame Elementary School students had the lowest rating in the area, at 86%, but Notre Dame High School fared better, with 91% of students properly vaccinated.

The percentages included in the report were calculated by dividing the number of students with valid immunization certification by total enrollment.
