Burlington’s representative at the Miss Iowa pageant has been selected.

Maddison Lange, a University of Iowa Sophomore and Centerville native, took home the sash and crown over six other young ladies during the Sunday event at the Comfort Inn in Burlington.

Lange says she’s excited to represent the people of Des Moines County.

Lange competed with a platform entitled “Breaking Barriers: The Battle Against Juvenile Diabetes”. She performed a tap dance to “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars to take the sash.

Lange performed in front of a host of visiting royalty, including Miss Illinois Marisa Buchheit Miss Iowa Alyson Olsen. Olsen said she became close with all of the contestants.

“I’ve seen them improve. I [wanted] all of them to win,” Olsen told KBUR.
