Obituaries Tuesday March 10th

Matthew William Hallman, 52, of Burlington, Iowa, died peacefully at home on Saturday morning, March 7, 2015 surrounded by family.

Born on December 14, 1962 at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Bill Hallman and M. Diane Wilson Mansheim.

Matt was a 1981 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He studied Forestry at Muscatine Community College and attended Dade County Community College. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Western Illinois University in 1996; and an LPN degree from Southeastern Community College.

Matt served in the U.S. Army in the Army Airborne Infantry. He served in Panama and retired from the service as Sgt, E5. Through the years, Matt worked maintenance for Schramm’s, was employed by Prugh Funeral Service, was the Office Manager at Zaiser Fabrication and also was a self-employed carpenter.

He enjoyed refinishing furniture and home restorations; helping friends; going to Bee’s games with Dad and brother-in-law; playing with the nieces, nephews & step-grandchildren, Andrea, Taylor & Brenden; fishing at “The Land”; reading; listening to music; and traveling to Asia, Thailand, Vietnam & Cambodia. He was blessed by his cousin with a kidney transplant in 2004.

He is survived by his parents, Diane and Robert Mansheim of Burlington, Iowa; four sisters, Julie Mansheim Cook of Omaha, Nebraska, Heidi Hallman Carlson (friend Tim Brown) of Burlington, Iowa, Johannah Hallman (Charles) Burm of Burlington, Iowa and Amanda (Rodney) Brent of Gladstone, Illinois; three brothers, Rob (Kim) Mansheim of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Joe Mansheim of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Ed (Amanda) Mansheim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his dear aunts, Liz, Maggie, Missy, Sarah and Bunny: many uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and one brother, Curtis Anthony Hallman.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:30 am at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, Iowa. Celebrant will be Fr. David Steinle and Concelebrants will be Fr. Michael Phillips & Fr. Anthony Herold. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir and the family. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

There will be a Divine Mercy Chaplet on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, then the Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends at the church from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Friends may call at the church after 1:00 pm. Tuesday.

Following the service, cremation will be entrusted to Prugh cremation services. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 10:00 am.
