Public Hearing Set on $2.4 Million Bond Issue

The Burlington City Council will hold a public hearing later this month on a $2.4 Million General Obligation bond designed to fund several projects.

Of the $2.4 million, $886,000 is set aside specifically for various street paving projects, $540,000 is earmarked for a new fire truck for the Burlington Fire Department, $130,000 for the city’s matching portion on a $400,000 pavement project for seven blocks of Division Street.

Also included is $700,000 to rehabilitate the Police Department building downtown. Mayor Shane McCampbell called that investment a “Stop Gap” measure until a more permanent solution could be found to problems at the city’s aging police station. McCampbell says that building a new facility would cost around $6 million, money the city currently doesn’t have access to.

The public hearing will take place on March 16th at Burlington City Hall.
