Danville’s Hopes Dashed with Buzzer Beater, Hawkeyes Lose, Cyclones Win

It was a last second buzzer beater from Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto’s Shawn Flanigan that put the nail in the coffin for Danville High School’s championship run.

The Bears lost in the semifinals by just one basket–59 to 57. The loss means that MVAO will face number 1 ranked Gladstone-Reinbeck in todays 3A championship game.

Disappointment as well on the college court yesterday as the Iowa Hawkeyes lost to Penn State in the second round of the Big 10 Tournament 67-58. Iowa State had better luck in the Big 12 Quarterfinals, downing Texas by a nose, 69-67.

With high school basketball all but over, one local team is still playing: SCC faces Lawson State in Alabama, tonight.

In the NHL, Chicago Blackhawks took down the Arizona Coyotes on the road, 2-1. St. Louis Blues beat the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 in a shootout.

In the NBA, Chicago takes on the Charlotte Hornets on the road tonight.

In Baseball, Cubs fell to the Angels 10-9, St. Louis beat Baltimore 8-2, and the White Sox, in a Split Series lost to both Texas and San Francisco, 7-3 and 7-4, respectively.
