4-Year-Old Pulled from Icy Iowa Lake has Died, Sheriff Says

CRYSTAL LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 4-year-old boy who was pulled from an icy lake in northern Iowa has died at a Minnesota hospital.

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Dodd said Monday that Joel Nedved, of Crystal Lake, died Saturday.

The boy was taken to Mayor Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, after he was found around 5 p.m. Friday. He was found in 4 feet of water about 100 feet from the shore of Crystal Lake. He had been reported missing by his family around 2 p.m.

Relatives say the boy and his father had been playing with their dog at Crystal Lake State Park. He was last seen on shore.

The lake has ice cover that’s interspersed with large areas of open water.
