Obituaries Monday March 16th

Donna M. Hofeldt, 78, of Bettendorf, died at 2:56 PM Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

 

Born October 14, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Raymond F. and Leonida E. Brueck Orth.

 

Donna worked in the custodial department of the Davenport School System for 20 years before retiring in 2002.

 

She was a 1954 graduate of Burlington Catholic High School.

 

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Davenport and SS. John & Paul Catholic Church in Burlington. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she especially loved attending her grandchildren’s activities.

 

Survivors include two sons, Craig Hofeldt of Apache Junction, AZ and Bart (Sally) Hofeldt of Davenport; two daughters, Lori (Rick) Myles of Libertyville, IL and Linda (Rick) Moss of Davenport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one due in July; and three sisters, Joan Beckman of Burlington, Doloris Robertson of Mediapolis, and Lois Orth of Burlington.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Ed Orth and Donald Orth.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Hofeldt will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. A time of food and fellowship will be held in St. John’s cafeteria following the service.  Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

 

A memorial has been established for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

     Virginia A. Kindig Philpott Fenton, 93, of Burlington, died at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

Born on November 6, 1921 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of George E. and Lula Belle Smith Kindig. She married Everett Philpott on July 17, 1948 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He died March 8, 1977. She married Oscar Fenton and he died September 27, 1987.

Virginia loved to travel, go shopping and the company of her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and people. She also enjoyed country & western music. She was a loving and caring people person who enjoyed the company of others. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two sons, Randy Philpott of Burlington, Iowa and Rick (Susan) Philpott of West Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Kindig of Burlington, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; five daughters, Norma Jean Philpott, Joan Wonders, Kathie Newland, Sandra Philpott and Kaylee Morris; one son, George Edward Philpott; granddaughter, Lynda Gillis; one brother, Russell Kindig; and one sister, Kathryn Kindig.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Chaplain David Plooster will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Prugh’s Chapel. A memorial has been established in memory of Virginia Fenton.
