Obituaries Thursday March 19th

James ‘JimmyD’ Franklin Deitrick, age 61, of Mediapolis, died Thursday morning March 19, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.  The son of Franklin A. and Elaine Ann Scott Deitrick, he was born on January 26, 1954 in Burlington.  He married Dana Pfafflin and they later divorced.

 

He graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1972.  James worked in building construction first with Lloyd Schofield and later Bob Johnson, then US Gypsum, and then Carl A. Nelson.  He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis and also enjoyed fellowship at the First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis.

 

James ‘JimmyD’ enjoyed baseball and golf along with all the Mediapolis sports.  He played for the River Chiefs Football in Burlington and coached baseball.  He also enjoyed morning coffee at Apron Strings and sharing stories.  ‘JimmyD’ loved being with his children and grandchildren.  He never met a stranger.

 

His family includes his father, Franklin Deitrick of Mediapolis; a daughter, Michele & Ramondo ‘Doe’ Randle of Burlington; a son, Jeremy Deitrick of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Taylor and Tristan Randle; two sisters, Debbie & Matthew Smithson of Waxahachie, Texas and Rochelle ‘Shelly’ & Rich Yotter of Oakville; and two brothers, Robert & Rhonda Deitrick of Burlington and Dale ‘Dutch’ & Denise Deitrick of Mediapolis.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine.

 

Following cremation a visitation with the family to meet friends will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.  A celebration of life will be held immediately after the visitation at the 61 Chop House in Mediapolis.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Mediapolis Athletic Boosters.

Randall Lee Brown, 72, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Danville Care Center, Danville, Iowa on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.

 

Born on October 4, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Clyde M. and Gladys M. McCarty Brown. He married Patricia A. Dowell in August of 1961 in Burlington, Iowa. She died in 1996. He married Linda J. Christy on August 12, 1977 in Houston, Texas. She died on June 22, 1989. He married Joanne Panica in August of 1991 in New York. She died in 2005.

 

Randy served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He then worked in furniture sales for Montgomery Ward and sales at Standard of Beaverdale. He owned Benson Lumber Company, was owner/operator of a marina in Branson, Missouri and was an owner/operator truck driver for RBX Trucking in Springfield, Missouri. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He was of the Catholic faith.

 

He is survived by one daughter, Kelly (Mark) Bowman of Burlington, Iowa; four sons, Michael (Millie) Brown of Springfield, Missouri, Mark (Terrie) Brown of Burlington, Iowa, Matthew (Michelle) Brown of Burlington, Iowa and Randall (Mary) Brown Jr. of Burlington, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; two step-brothers, Maxwell Downer Jr. of Burlington, Iowa and Donald Downer of Sperry, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one granddaughter, Kelli, three brothers, Melvin, Robert & Jack, one sister, Lois.

 

Graveside ash committal services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
