Victims Airlifted Following Two Separate Wapello Rollover Accidents

Wapello Fire and Rescue Teams had quite the busy weekend: two separate rollover accidents resulted in injuries serious enough to require a medical helicopter at both scenes.

The first came on Saturday. Upon arrival, Wapello Fire & Rescue and Wapello Ambulance discovered a vehicle on its top in the area of 9567 Highway 99. The vehicle had left the roadway, clipped a utility pole and rolled over, injuring one and partially pinning another victim underneath the vehicle. The pinned victim was extricated using the Jaws of Life.

The second came on Sunday, just before noon. Wapello Fire & Rescue and Wapello Ambulance were paged to the area of the Iowa River Bridge North of Wapello and crews discovered a single vehicle accident with one victim pinned inside the wreckage. The vehicle appeared to have left the roadway, rolled and struck a tree. Rescue crews freed the trapped victim over the course of about 45 minutes, once again utilizing the jaws of life.
