Nikes Coach Stepping Down, MHI Layoff to Blame

The coach of the Notre Dame Nikes squad who won a state championship last year has stepped down from his position. Kollin Alfred also works at the Mount Pleasant MHI–or, at least, he did; he’s been laid off due to pending closure. Job uncertainty, he says, motivated him to give up the job he’s held for eight seasons. Alfred brought the team to three back-to-back state tournaments. Tthe Nikes most recent championship run ended when they fell in the semifinal round.

In NCAA Basketball last night, Wisconsin took down North Carolina, Kentucky beat West Virginia, and Notre Dame beat Wichita State. They advance to the elite eight.

In Spring Training baseball, St Louis fell to Miami 5-3, Kansas City shut out Seattle 3-0, White Sox fell to the Dodgers 9-6, the Angels beat the Cubs, 8-4.

St Louis plays a split series with both the Mets and the Nationals tonight, Cubs and White Sox face off against one another this evening as well.

The “Extra Point” kick may be undergoing some changes over the next several months. NFL owners feel the play is too “boring” and may make the kick longer in order to be more challenging to kickers and, in theory, more fun to watch.
