Burlington City Council Approves Sewer Rehab Project

The Burlington City Council approved a $252,000 sewer rehabilitation project during a city council meeting last night.

The project aims to reconstruct and improve the sewers below Main street. City Engineer Ryne Thornberg.

“The focus is on the brick sewer under Main street that collapsed last summer, the portion of it that remains,” Thornburg said. “The purpose is to expand the life of our sewer system and decrease infiltration into the sanitary sewers we use to treat groundwater.”

The new pipe, which will be lined with a special, cured-in-place material designed to save money, will have a lifespan of around 50 to 75 years.

A portion of Sunnyside Avenue’s sewer line will also undergo renovations with replacement PVC pipe.
