Obituaries Monday April 13th

Alice I. Bragg, 78, Burlington died Saturday 4/11 at her home.

She is survived by 2 sons, John and William of Burlington, 3 daughters, Shawna Wheatley and Roberta Ferguson of Burlington and Tammy Grisham of Lomax, IL, a sister, Martha Hudson of Terre Haute, IN, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tue 4/14 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington with the family receiving friends Mon 4/13 from 6-8 PM at Lunnings.

 

Floyd E. ‘Peck’ Dean, Jr., age 91 of Morning Sun, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Morning Sun Care Center.  The son of Floyd E. Dean, Sr. and Eva Lewis Dean, he was born on December 26, 1923 in Columbus Junction.  He married H. Darlene Bryant on November 14, 1941 in Canton, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on January 14, 2014.

 

He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and served in the US Army during WW II as a Manitowoc crane operator loading Liberty Ships in Iceland.  Peck was a truck driver and mechanic operating Dean’s Tru Trail in Morning Sun.  He had received a US Patent on a frame alignment machine for semi trailer repairs.  He enjoyed working along with reading.  He was an avid civil war enthusiast.

 

His family includes two sons, Ralph Dean of Morning Sun and Lonnie Dean of Brighton, Colorado; two daughters, Trudy Hopkins of Ottumwa and Ann Robinson of Keosauqua; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a sister, Mona Oberhaus of Lakeland, Florida.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; and nephew, L. Dean Oberhaus.

 

The graveside service with military rites will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

 

A general memorial has been established.

 

The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun is providing the cremation care and graveside arrangements for Peck Dean.

 

Eileen D. DeHague, beloved Spouse, Mother, and Grandmother, 91, of Burlington, died at 9:46 AM  Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by her family.

 

Born August 12, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William L. and Elizabeth E. Blum Seiberling. On October 30, 1942, she married George R. DeHague in St. Patrick, MO.  He died July 30, 2013.

 

Eileen worked many years at J.S. Schramm Co. and was a homemaker.

 

She graduated from Burlington High School.

 

She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.  She enjoyed knitting, bowling, bingo, trips to the casino and crossword puzzles.

 

Survivors include one son, James (Sandra) DeHague of Coos Bay, OR; three daughters, Diane (Gene) Norton and Nancy (Fred) Klesner, both of Burlington, and Debra (Greg) Collins of Davenport, IA; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, and three step great-great grandchildren.

 

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, William and Richard Seiberling, and one sister, Elizabeth Murry.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM  until 11:00 AM with the family to receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. DeHague will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father David G. Steinle officiating.  Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.

Sabbie Berniece Miller, 92 of Mediapolis, died Saturday April 11, 2015 at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis.  Born September 9, 1922, in rural Oakville, she was the daughter of William and Myrtie Nelson Crow. She married Frank R. Miller on June 27, 1949.   He died October 15, 1985. She attended country schools in Des Moines County.   She and her husband lived and farmed together in the Yarmouth area until his death when she moved to Mediapolis.

She was a dedicated homemaker, a member of the Yarmouth Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, and  4-H leader.  After her move to Mediapolis she was a volunteer at the Mediapolis grade school.  She  enjoyed eating out, especially having lunch with her long-time friends and neighbors.  Her special joy was spending time with her two grandchildren, Ryan and Kristin Kuntz, and her six great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Gerth (Dan) of Santa Fe, NM and Judy Kuntz (Paul) of Mediapolis; two grandchildren, Ryan Kuntz of Tiffin, IA and Kristin Vorwerk (Anthony) of Morning Sun; six great grandchildren, Nylah, Weston and Gage Kuntz and Clayton, Kyle, and Kimberly Vorwerk; one sister, Irene Trimble of Keller, TX; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight brothers (Leonard, Virgil, Lloyd, Bert, Leo, Clifford, Hubert and Glenn) and one sister (Ruth).

The funeral service will be held Wednesday April 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with Pastor Dan Baker officiating.  Interment will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m.  A general memorial has been established in her name.
