Single Engine Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Eastern Iowa Road

PEOSTA, Iowa (AP) — A small, single-engine plane has made an emergency landing on a rural eastern Iowa road.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that no one was injured when the emergency landing was executed Saturday morning on the Peosta road.

The pilot, Adam Maritz of California, reports he was in the middle of a flight to Illinois when he saw smoke in the cockpit. In response, he shut off his avionics equipment. That prompted Dubuque Regional Airport staff to alert emergency responders, since they lost contact with the plane.

Maritz found a stretch of Cox Springs Road without nearby power lines and landed the plane, which he then drove into a nearby parking lot. Maritz was the only occupant of the plane.

No property damage was reported.
