Obituaries Wednesday April 15th

John Howard “J.H.” Schiedel, 86 of Lomax, Illinois passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday April 13, 2015 at his home. He was born May 2, 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Henry and Florence Kershner Schiedel. On November 26, 1948, he married Gwendolyn Ruth Pence in Red Oak, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2007.

 

Mr. Schiedel was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a welder for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1948 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Brotherhood Of Maintenance Of Way Union and a former member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed woodworking and yard work.

 

Survivors include three daughters- Pat (John) Brockman of Franklin, IA, Cindy Schiedel of Niota, IL, Sandy (Clarence) Thacker of Burlington, IA, two sons, Mark Schiedel of Wapello, IA, Jeff (Ruth Ann) Schiedel of LaHarpe, IL, thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and two sisters, Pauline Boughner of Richland, IA and Shirley Parker of Fairfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one son, Richard Schiedel.

 

Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The graveside service, with Military Rites, for Mr. Schiedel will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Carman Cemetery with Rev. Arlo Gene Lessenger, age 83, of Muscatine, died Monday morning, April 13, 2015, at his home.  The son of Carroll J. and Mary Lucille Shaw Lessenger he was born on March 16, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant.  He married Lois Lucille Stineman in 1950.  They later divorced.

 

Arlo graduated from Wapello High School in 1950.  He worked as a machinist and retired from Prime Mover in Muscatine to manage his rental properties.  He enjoyed and had participated in car racing and was an avid Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

 

His family includes a daughter, Teresa & Brian Shepley of Muscatine; two sons, Dr. Elvin ‘Pete’ & Carolyn Lessenger of Friendswood, Texas and Brian & Fran Lessenger of Grandview; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a sister, Roberta & Ray Boulton of Wapello.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, La Donna Jo Lessenger and Riva Brown.

 

The funeral ceremony for Arlo Lessenger will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

 

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the American Heart Association.

David Allen Crose, 62, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa, on Monday, April 13, 2015.

 

He was born on August 9, 1952 in Burlington, Iowa. He married Shirley Hollingsworth on January 27, 1979 in Burlington, Iowa.

 

David served in the U.S. Army and worked at American Ordinance. He enjoyed yard work, fishing, flower gardening and spending time with his “little buddies”. Watching cartoons and overnight stays always included a little teasing by Grandpa. He was of the Baptist faith.

 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, David (Sarah) Crose of Burlington, Iowa; three daughters, Stephanie (Brent) Vollmer of Olds, Iowa, Lindsey (Luke) Van Order of Moline, Illinois and Barbara (Colter) Jarrett of Burlington, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Elayna, Zander, Cooper, Cadence, Maverick, Macyn, Kinnick, Carver, Ryker, Bentley, Carter; two sisters, Ella (Tom) Manning and Joni (Billy) Black, both of Burlington, Iowa; three nieces and two nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandmother and his step-father.

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Chaplain Randy Gearhart will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.
