Obituaries Thursday April 23rd

Marjorie Lou Dickey, 80 years, of Houston, Texas and formerly of Donnellson and Fort Madison, Iowa died at 9:40 am Monday, April 20, 2015 at the East Houston Regional Medical Center, Houston, Texas.  She was born April 24, 1934 at Sullivan, Illinois, the daughter of Delbert Wade and Ruth Olga (Derring) Sullivan.  On March 3, 1954, she married Matthew “Wendell” Dickey at Cantril, Illinois.  He survives.

 

Marjorie was a 1952 graduate of Fox Valley High School, Cantril, Iowa.  She was a homemaker. She also worked for a period of time at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in the pharmacy department.  She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading mystery novels, and genealogy.

 

She is survived by her husband, Matthew “Wendell” Dickey, of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Rhonda Dickey, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Karen Dickey, of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Bill (Connie) Sullivan, Cantril, Iowa and Steve (Janell) Sullivan, of Hollister, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Martha Sullivan, of Milton, Iowa and Joyce Dickey, of Donnellson, Iowa; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Roger Sullivan.

 

Her family will greet friends for visitation from 5:00 – 6:30 pm Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend John Simpson officiating.  Burial with be at Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.  A memorial has been established for the Donnellson Public Library or the family, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services.  Online condolences to the Dickey family may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services website, www.barrmemorialchapel.com.

 

Donald Wayne Dunkin, 67, of Burlington, died at 11:20 PM Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

 

Born December 15, 1947, in Trenton, MO, he was the son of James Blaine and Elizabeth Pearl Walker Dunkin. He married Betty Jo Ellis in Fort Madison, Iowa.

 

Don was a drywall finisher.

 

He was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time at his cabin. He cherished time with his family.

 

Survivors include, Betty; two sons, Larry Dunkin and Brian (Josie) Dunkin, both of Burlington; three daughters, Donna  (Mike) Stevens of Burlington, Amy (Ryan) Lightfoot of Denmark, and Shawn (Mike) Pence-Wilke of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Alyson, Sonya, Brayton, Mariah, Jenna, Jaden, Tommy, Jennifer, Stephanie, Cody, Sierra, Darian, Jarrett, Seth and Melissa, ten great-grandchildren, Gannon, Emma, Kyra, Aaliyah, Keondrea, Kameron, Caleb, Ryden, Raelle, and Cardin; two sisters, Mary (Dale) Hobbs of Shennadoah, IA, and Dorothy (Larry) Dryer of Brimson, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Dunkin will be 3:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Charles W. Stevens officiating. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

 

Astrid Holoubek, 99, of West Burlington, died at 2:04 am Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.  Arrangements are pending at the Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

A memorial has been established.
