A Burlington Police Officer was punched in the face as he arrested a Burlington man who fled from police on Saturday.

Officers first responded to the area of 7th and Spring to a report of shots fired in the vicinity. There, they found 26 year old Mathew Hogaboom riding a bicycle. They approached Hogaboom, hoping to ask him about the suspicious noises, and that’s when Hogaboom allegedly jumped off of his bike and ran from police.

Police caught up with Hogaboom a few blocks away on Arch Street. While taking Hogaboom into custody, Hogaboom swung around and allegedly punched an officer in the face.

Hogaboom is charged with interference with official acts, assault on a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia after a search of his person turned up a drug pipe, and on two warrants, one from Colorado, the other from Des Moines County.
