Police inspect the damaged truck on Thursday.

A semi truck pulling a ramp struck the side of the US-34 overpass in downtown Burlington yesterday, and now the Iowa Department of Transportation has closed the eastbound main street exit ramp as they evaluate the damage.

The strike dented the side of the overpass, which had just been painted and repaired earlier this month. A DOT news release says that crews will inspect the bridge for damage to it’s structural integrity.

The truck, owned by Alter Metal Recycling, had it’s ramp seriously damaged. It’s driver, 65 year old Terriray Sanderson of Fort Madison, sustained minor injuries. Sanderson apparently failed to lower the ramp on the back of the truck.

The accident occured during that 8:00 am hour.
