Helen Brink Bishop

The memorial service for Mrs. Helen Brink Bishop, 95, of Monroe, Georgia and formerly New London, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Pastor Jim Roth will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a memorial has been established for the New London United Methodist Church and Dover Museum.  Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.

 

Myrtle Marie Gott, age  99 of Wapello, died Friday May 8, 2015 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center.  The daughter of Bert and Bertha (Ashby) Robertson, she was born October 18, 1915 in Louisa County.  She was married to William Gott and they later divorced.  Myrtle worked  for a short time as a nurse aide at Oakdale, Iowa.  She was a farm wife and took pride in her home and yard. She spent a lot of time making afghans and crochet items for her family.

 

Survivors include:  one son, James and Ruby Gott of Wapello; one granddaughter Connie and Bill Pierce; two great granddaughters Sandie and Walter McDowell and Bridget Pierce; two great grandsons Noah Garr and Zack McDowell; one sister, Mary Lee Nelson of Silvis, Illinois; one brother, Richard Robertson of Washington, Iowa;  She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and four sisters.

 

The funeral service will be Monday May 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with Pastor Dan Doolin  officiating.  Interment will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m  prior to the service.  A general memorial has been established in her name.

 

Audrey Jewel Klein, 94, of Burlington, died at 5:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

 

Born March 3, 1921, in Argyle, IA, she was the daughter of Louis and Clesta Derr Westermeyer.  In June of 1940 she married Winton E. Gillaspey in Argyle.  He died in WW II in 1945.  On June 4, 1949, she married Arnold G. Klein in Burlington.  He died November 17, 1980.

 

Audrey was a homemaker.

 

She was a 1940 graduate of Argyle High School where she was the Valedictorian.

 

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Burlington Golf Club, Elks Lodge #84, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and numerous bridge clubs.  She enjoyed sports, sewing, crocheting, golfing, and mushroom hunting.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Burlington Bees fan.  She was the queen of Thanksgiving for her family for 53 years.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Adams of Burlington, and Bonney Lord of Joplin, MO; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, one brother, Melvin Westermeyer of Keokuk, IA; and 27 nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Arthur “Art” Klein, five brothers, and two sisters.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM with the family to receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. Klein will be 10:30 AM Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Brice Hughes officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at Zion United Church of Christ following the burial.

 

Memorials have been established for Zion United Church of Christ and Great River Hospice.

James Allen Heckenberg, 55, of Burlington, died at 4:35 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born October 27, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Edwin James and Rena Mae Timmerman Heckenberg. On May 31, 1997, he married Lynette Renee Johnson at the First Christian Church in Davenport.

 

Jim worked as a city planner for the City of Burlington and City of Davenport.

 

He was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a 1984 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Planning with a minor in Political Science and History.

 

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He had a passion for history, current events, and politics.  He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.

 

Survivors include his wife, Lynette; one son, Nathan Sandrock of Anchorage, AK, his mother, Rena Heckenberg of Burlington; two brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Heckenberg and Steve Heckenberg both of Burlington; one sister, Pam (Scott) Gustafson of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his father in 2007, and one brother, Dan in 1983.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

There will be no visitation or services.

 

Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery

 

A memorial has been established for the Purple and Gray Foundation for improvement at Bracewell Stadium.

 

Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory is in care of the arrangements.

Richard “Dick” Roth, 80, of Burlington, died at 3:20 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born February 1, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Fritz and Gladys Taeger Roth.  On July 2, 1956, he married Delaine Stephens in Burlington. She died April 21, 2002.

 

Dick was a farmer and owner/operator of Roth Trucking.

 

He was a 1953 graduate of Burlington High School.

 

He enjoyed watching sprint car races at 34 Raceways, doing yard work, watching Iowa Hawkeyes basketball, working, and spending time with his family.

 

Survivors include two sons, Steve (Maria) Roth, and Todd (Brittan) Roth, both of Burlington; one daughter, Nancy Roth of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Elisa) Roth, Rachel (Blake) Cameron, Luke Roth, Natalie Roth, Danielle Roth, Dillan Roth, and Dalton Roth; four great-grandchildren, Delaney, Hudson, Kinsey and Kyler; three sisters, Pat Walljasper of Denmark, IA, Geraldine Bennett of Burlington, and Joyce Roth of Burlington; and significant other, Delores “Doddie” Burgus of Burlington.

 

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Roth will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Roth Trucking Shop following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Keith R. McConahay, 75, West Burlington died Wed 5/6 at the Great River Medical Center.

He is survived by his son Mark of Granger, IA, 2 step-sons, Daniel Morse of Burlington and Timothy Morse of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Holly Cherveny of Durant, IA and step-daughter, Marilee Deering of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Larry of Iowa City and 2 sisters, Berry Perkins of Morning Sun and Phyllis McKinney of Wapello, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Memorial funeral services will be held at 1030 AM Thursday 5/14 at Messiah Lutheran Church with burial in the Aspen Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4-7 Wed 5/13 at Lunning Chapel.
